Former Australian Cricket wicket-keeper, Brad Haddin was excited to fly up and catch-up with the Pirates for their annual fundraiser lunch… that was until he came down with a mystery illness two days before!
With Brad indisposed, a last ditched SOS was sent out to the “Goat”, Nathan Lyon who had returned from England from the Ashes just days before to rest his torn calf muscle.

Nathan was candid, patriotic and irreverent as he discussed the Ashes, Bazball, his career and of course how he got his nicknames to the appreciative crowd.
Former Wallabies fly-half, Elton Flatley gave us his take on the game they play in heaven and the Wallabies chances of coming good for the World Cup which starts in a couple of months.

It was a fun evening of fundraising for the Pirates who are aiming for success in their third attempt at the Century Cricket Group’s Brisbane Premier League. There was a hint of sadness as we had a moment’s silence for Paul Green who spoke at last year’s Pirates lunch just a few weeks before he passed away.

The re-vamped 10-team Century for the senior men gets underway on August 11-13 with the Pirates looking to continue to progress after making the semi-final last year.
The junior competitions will run through the September school holidays.

The lunch was held at the wonderful Redlands Sporting Club who sponsor the Pirates along with Morgans Financial, Remax Results and BMD Group who were all in attendance to support the lunch. The food and service was top-notch and we look forward to going again next year!
